Call for Volunteers

Are you interested in furthering your career, building your network of professionals, strengthening your leadership skills and hearing from some of the greatest minds in advertising today?

If so, then ANA has an incredible opportunity for you!

Become a volunteer at the 2016 ANA Masters of Marketing Conference and in return for your time (Approx. 20 hours over 4 days) you will receive a complimentary pass to the event (hotel accommodations not included).

We are looking for approximately 10-15 volunteers to help with registration, seating and sponsorship deliverables.

The Fine Print: Meeting and Opportunity!

The Fine Print, a local magazine with an activist leaning, published seasonally, is looking for students who are interested in writing and reporting long-form magazine pieces. This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a local publication that’s been around for almost a decade and a unique way to get to know and love the Gainesville community!

Join us, we’ll be holding the first General Body Meeting of the year on August 30 in Anderson Hall at 7:30 p.m. Baked goods and refreshments will be provided.

CJC Latin American-Caribbean Supplemental Scholarship

CJC Latin American-Caribbean Supplemental Scholarship

Award: This scholarship will award the selected students $500 in federal or state funding, sponsored by the College of Journalism and Communications.   This award may allow the recipient to qualify for in-state tuition.

Eligibility:

  • Full Time undergraduate student
  • 3.0 gpa
  • Entering junior or senior year
  • On-Campus student (IA included)
  • Currently paying out-of-state tuition
  • Primary major of Journalism, Telecommunication, Public Relations, or Advertising
  • Qualifying citizenship (born and living in)
    • Caribbean: Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Virgin Islands.
    • Central America: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama.
    • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela.
    • North America: Mexico
  • Only be used for two primary semesters per year
  • Eligible for renewal, a maximum of 4 semesters, if maintaining gpa, full time enrollment, and CJC as primary major

Diversity Networking Event: Pre Career Showcase Connections

The Career Resource Center will be hosting a new event, Diversity Meet Up: Pre Showcase Connections on Monday, September 26, 2016. This Pre Career Showcase Diversity Networking Mixer is specifically designed to connect students of color, students with visible and non- visible disabilities, veterans, women in the STEM and Business fields and students who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community directly with employers.

 We have over 195 employer representatives that have registered for this event and we anticipate that this number will grow.  This event is open to all majors and minors as well as graduate and undergraduate students. There will be a networking tips and strategies workshop in the Career Resource Center prior to the  Diversity Networking Mixer that will begin at 6PM.

The New York Times 2017 Summer Newsroom Internship Program

The Times offers 10-week paid summer internships of demanding work and high journalistic standards in reporting, graphics, art design, page design, photography, interactive news, videography, web production and copy editing.

Internships are offered to college juniors, seniors and graduate students who have decided on careers in journalism. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internships.

Richard Sewell Scholarship – Fall Intern in DC Scholarship Application Open

The DC Gator Club has an open application process for one (1) scholarship of $1,500 for a University of Florida student with an internship in the greater Washington, DC area for the fall semester. This scholarship is made possible by DC Gator Club general funds, and also in part, by a generous endowment established by the DC Gator Club to support students participating in internships in Washington DC, in honor of J. Richard Sewell, a former DC Gator Club president.

Undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled for internship credit and will be spending the semester in the area are welcome to apply. Preference is given to those with unpaid internships and financial need. A scholarship will be awarded to the top student who demonstrates exceptional academic achievement as well as professional promise and a commitment to the Gator Nation. Special Olympics Florida Seeks Volunteers For Local Event

The Special Olympics Florida is seeking volunteers to assist with various activities for their upcoming Alachua County event.  If you are interested, it is very easy to apply.

Volunteers are needed to assist with registration, monitoring bowling lanes, score keeping, escorting athletes, awards, and more!

Volunteers will receive:

  • Special Olympics T-Shirt
  • Record of Community Service Hours
  • Light Refreshments
